Make a Collage With Text

Opens with the Text step open and a title band at the top. The band takes its room out of the layout, so no photo is covered.

How to add text to a photo collage

  1. Type the title. It opens with a placeholder title and caption; type over them. The title can be 80 characters, the caption 120.
  2. Choose where it goes. Top band, bottom band, or on the photos on a soft plate. A band moves the layout to make room.
  3. Choose the typeface and size. Rounded, Clean, Serif, or हिन्दी for Hindi and Marathi. The caption is always just under half the title's size.
  4. Save. The fonts are loaded before the title is drawn into the file, so the saved text matches the screen.

A band, not a sticker

Text dropped on top of a collage covers part of a photo, and usually the wrong part. This page's default is a band: a strip of the ground colour above or below the layout, with the title and caption centred in it. The layout shrinks to fit the rest of the frame, so every photo keeps all of its slot. The band's height follows the text size, the gap and the outer edge, so it looks like part of the design rather than a strip bolted on.

On the photos puts the text on a soft rounded plate near the bottom instead, for a collage that has to stay full-bleed.

Long titles and other scripts

A title wider than the collage is shrunk until it fits, rather than running off the edge. If it has to shrink to less than 70% of the size you set, the Save step says so, so a long name is not quietly made small. The hindi typeface is Noto Sans Devanagari, which this site carries itself, so a Hindi or Marathi title draws the same way on every phone and computer. It is a small font file from this site, fetched only when Devanagari text is on screen; your photos still go nowhere.

Occasion templates in the Style step write a title for you in English, and the Text step can switch it to Hindi.

Questions people ask about this one

Can I write in Hindi?

Yes. Choose the हिन्दी typeface; it draws Devanagari in Noto Sans Devanagari, which this site carries itself.

Will the text cover my photos?

Not in a top or bottom band — the layout moves to make room. Only On photos puts it over them.

Can I add text boxes anywhere?

Not yet. There is one title and one caption per collage, in a band or on a plate.

Why did my title get smaller?

It was wider than the collage, so it was fitted to the width. A shorter title or a smaller size keeps it as you set it.

Do emoji work in the title?

They are drawn with your device's emoji font, so they may look different on other devices.
