Make a Heart Photo Collage

Opens with the whole collage cut to a heart on a see-through ground, so it saves as a PNG with nothing outside the heart.

How to make a heart-shaped collage

  1. Open six or more photos. A heart needs small slots to read as a heart. It opens on a nine-photo grid; the Layout step lists the mosaics and even grids first.
  2. Put close-ups in the middle. The corners of the frame are outside the heart. Under Shape in the Style step, a line names any slot that is mostly cut away; move the less important photos there, or pick a denser layout.
  3. Choose the ground. It opens see-through, so the outside of the heart is clear. Pick a colour in Background if you want a heart on a card instead.
  4. Save as PNG. Auto saves a see-through ground as PNG. Choosing JPG fills the outside with white, and the Save step says so before it saves.

Why the layout matters more than usual

Cutting a collage to a heart throws away the corners, a wedge at the top and the sides of the point. With four big slots, one of them can lose most of its photo to the curve at the top or the point at the bottom, and the heart reads as a crop rather than as a shape. With nine or more small slots, the outline is made of many photos and reads clearly.

So on this page the mosaic and grid layouts come first, and the Style step checks every slot against the outline the renderer actually cuts: any slot with more than 60% of itself outside the heart is named.

A heart with nothing round it

The ground starts as none, so the saved PNG is transparent outside the heart. Drop it on a coloured background in another app, on a card or into a message, and only the heart shows. The gaps between photos are transparent too unless you give them a colour.

The circle, hexagon and arch are one tap away in the same row if a heart is not quite right.

Questions people ask about this one

Can I save a heart collage with a transparent background?

Yes. It opens see-through and Auto saves it as PNG, which keeps the transparency.

How many photos do I need for a heart?

Six or more reads well; nine to twelve is better. The heart is made out of the slots, so more slots make a cleaner outline.

Why is one photo nearly gone?

It sits in a corner the heart cuts away. Swap it with a photo you mind losing less, or pick a layout with more, smaller slots.

Can I add a title?

Yes. A title band above or below takes its room out of the layout, so the heart shrinks to fit rather than being covered.

Is it uploaded?

No. It is cut and saved in this tab.
